Dreimäderlhaus - Potsdam
About This Spot
Stepping into Dreimäderlhaus in Potsdam feels like crossing into a little pocket of genuine German hospitality, where the pace softens and the outside world fades into the background. The restaurant’s intimate size, with just a handful of tables, encourages a quiet warmth—an atmosphere that’s more reminiscent of a well-loved family dining room than a bustling eatery. Here, the light is gentle, conversations feel personal, and there’s a comforting rhythm that invites you to slow down and savor both the moment and the meal.
The experience here is quietly rich, anchored in tradition but never heavy-handed. The kitchen honors classic German home cooking with dishes that bring familiar scents and flavors to the table—think tender schnitzels paired with perfectly steamed vegetables, hearty roasts with tangy side accompaniments, and rustic comfort staples that speak of old recipes and steady hands. Portions are generous, meant to be enjoyed without rush, inviting you to linger and share stories as much as bites.
Service at Dreimäderlhaus feels part of the charm itself. There's a sincere attentiveness from the hosts that transcends language, reminding you that hospitality is universal. Without the rush of a typical restaurant, there’s space for a smile, a shared nod, and subtle moments of connection that add an unexpected layer of warmth. It’s a place where even a language barrier dissolves, replaced by hospitality’s quiet, inviting language.
If you find yourself seeking more than just a meal—a gathering spot that blends the tangible comfort of home cooking with the gentle pulse of local life—Dreimäderlhaus offers just that. A cozy enclave for anyone curious to taste tradition and feel a little bit rooted in Potsdam’s everyday stories.

Fantastic cosy restaurant with delicious home style food. Generous portions and impeccable service! Highly recommended.

Traditional German restaurant with the standard German menu. Very welcoming service and a quaint dining room atmosphere. I, of course, ordered the schnitzel and my date the bratwurst. It's a bit on the pricier side, but man oh man is it worth it! Both the schnitzel and the wurst were the best I've had in my life. I should have stopped eating halfway through because the portions were very generous, but I just couldn't stop. If you're in Potsdam and looking for German food, go here!! You will definitely not be disappointed.

Great and authentic German restaurant, delicious food and gluten free options. Friendly service, very familiar and cosy place.

We hesitated at first after reading that the owner might be unfriendly, but our experience turned out to be the complete opposite. He was genuinely kind and attentive, and despite the language barrier — he spoke no English and we spoke no German — we still managed to communicate pleasantly. The restaurant is a charming, intimate spot with only a handful of tables, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We arrived for a late lunch or early dinner and were fortunate to be seated. The beef roulade and beer were excellent, with flavors reminiscent of authentic homemade cooking. The experience was so delightful that we even left a note in the restaurant’s guestbook.

The food was good but the host made this place come alive! He was engaging. Even though my German is very bad and my husband speaks no German at all, he made the place come alive. The food was very delicious

It’s hard to search for a German restaurant when everywhere is Asian or Indian. But we are lucky, this one does not just serve German dishes but serve Great ones.

Absolutely stunning home cooked meal! A must try in Potsdam. Pork knuckle is a local specialty

One of the best German meals I've had while visiting Germany. The restaurant is cozy and is elegantly decorated, run by a husband-wife duo which is impressive given the quality. The host is extremely hospitable and accommodating, even to tourists like me. I ordered the bratwurst which was excellent, I wish I could try out more of the menu, alas I was in Potsdam only for a day trip. There is no separate menu in English but Google Lens does the job well and the host is patient with it.
